Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans (475 km², 2/3 in Montenegro, 1/3 in Albania). National park and UNESCO biosphere reserve. Bird-lovers' paradise — more than 280 species, including the Dalmatian pelican (one of the largest colonies in Europe).

Lake Skadar is one of the most important bird habitats in Europe:
- Dalmatian pelican — largest colony in the Balkans, about 100 pairs.
- Great cormorant, herons, wild geese, ducks — thousands nest here.
- Best season for observation: April–May (spring migrations) and September–October (autumn).
⛪ Island monasteries
On the islands of Lake Skadar there are medieval monasteries:
- Beška — 15th c., endowment of the Balšić.
- Starčevo — 14th c.
- Moračnik — 15th c.
- Kom — 15th c., seat of the metropolitanate.
Monasteries accessible only by boat — organised tours from Virpazar (50 EUR/person, 6 hours, lunch).
🍷 Wineries
Area around Lake Skadar (Crmnica) — Montenegro's most important wine region. Specialty: Vranac (autochthonous red grape). Wineries: Plantaže (largest in the Balkans, visit 12 EUR), 13. jul, Sjekloća, Pavlović. Traditional small family makers work by hand, sell directly at the Virpazar market.

Lake Skadar — rich in fish: carp, eel, bleak, chub. Traditional dishes: carp in alaska (fish paprikash), grilled eel. Restaurants in Virpazar: Pelikan (best fish), Stari Most.

- Kayak — quietest and most beautiful option. Rental 15 EUR/day.
- Cycling — trail around the lake (130 km).
- Swimming — most beautiful beaches on the islands.

Virpazar is 28 km from Podgorica (30 min), 35 km from Bar (40 min). Ideal day trip from the coast.
