Durmitor National Park (UNESCO 1980) — Montenegro's largest mountain massif, with 48 peaks over 2000 m. 18 glacial lakes, Tara canyon (deepest in Europe — 1300 m), dense black pine forests. Park centre: small town of Žabljak (1450 m, highest town in the Balkans).
🥾 Main trekking routes
- Bobotov Kuk (2523 m) — highest peak of Durmitor. Start from Sedlo, 4–5 hours ascent. Technically demanding at the top (steel cables).
- Black Lake — largest glacial lake (51 ha), 3 km from Žabljak. Easy walk around the lake (3.5 km, 1 hour). Starting point for other tours.
- Zminje, Modro, Vražje, Riblje lakes — smaller lakes, well connected by trails.
- Sedlo (1907 m) — highest mountain pass with gravel road, accessible by car. Starting point for most mountain tours.
- Premuće — less touristic side, wild, for advanced.
🏞️ Tara Canyon
Tara Canyon — world's second deepest canyon (after Grand Canyon). Length 78 km, depth up to 1300 m. Activities:
- Tara rafting — most popular activity. Start from Šćepan Polje, 18 km, 3–4 hours. Price: 50–70 EUR.
- Đurđević Tara Bridge (1940) — famous concrete arch bridge, 365 m long. Zipline across the canyon (15 EUR).
- Ćurevac viewpoint — best view of the canyon.

📅 When to go

🚗 How to get there
Žabljak is 130 km from Podgorica (3 hours by car via mountain pass). Regular buses from Podgorica and Nikšić (2 daily, 4 hours).
